(In the hospital)
Midori: Excuse me, I need help immediately.
Doctor: What’s the problem?
Midori: I have a sore throat and a terrible cough. I sometimes have a pain in my chest.
Doctor: Well, let me take a look at it. Breathe in and out.
Midori: Is it anything serious?
Doctor: I don’t think so. But I’ll take an X-ray to make sure. Since when have you had such symptoms?
Midori: Since the day before yesterday.

Doctor: Well, let me take a look at it. Breathe in and out. (ええ、見せてください。息を吸って吐いて。
Midori: Is it anything serious? (何か深刻なことでも？)
Doctor: I don’t think so. But I’ll take an X-ray to make sure. Since when have you had such symptoms? (そうは思いませんが。念のためにレントゲンを撮りましょう。 いつからそのような症状がありますか？)
Midori: Since the day before yesterday. (一昨日からです。)
医者に診てもらう
伊藤さんと医師がなにやら話をしています。では、二人の会話を聞いてみましょう。
Mr. Ito and Dr. Lee are talking in the hospital. (伊藤さんとリー医師が病院で話をしています。)
Dr. Lee: Well, Mr. Ito. It’s nice to see you again for your annual check-up. How are you feeling these days?
(ええと…伊藤さん。年に１回の健康診断でまたお会いできてよかったです。最近調子は如何ですか？)
Mr. Ito: I sometimes have a stomachache. (時々腹痛があります。)
Dr. Lee: Any other symptoms? (他に何か症状はありますか？)
Mr. Ito: I have diarrhea once a week. (週に１回下痢をします。)
Dr. Lee: Well, let me take a look at your stomach. (では、お腹を見せてください。)
Mr. Ito: Is it anything serious? (何か良くない状態でしょうか？)
Dr. Lee: I don’t think so. But I’ll run some tests to make sure.
(そうは思いませんが。しかし、確認するためにいくつか検査をしましょう。)

あなたは年に１回の健康診断を受けていますか？健康診断で早めに悪いところを発見してもらうことが大切ですね。
伊藤さんは下痢症状ですが、私の場合は便秘をすることがあります。
「私は便秘をしています」はI am constipated.と言います。
両方を覚えておくと困らないと思います。
病院救急室にて
サリーが看護婦さんと話をしています。どうやら、彼女のお母さんが怪我をしたようです。
では、二人の会話を聞いてみましょう。
In the hospital emergency room
Sally: Can you help us, please?
Nurse: What’s the problem?
Sally: This is my mother. She fell down the stairs. And her head is bleeding. I suppose she may break her leg. She has a great pain in her right leg. Can a doctor look at her right away?
Nurse: Please have a seat. And calm down, please. The doctor will be here in a minute.

emergency：緊急の、非常用の
What’s the problem?：「どうしましたか」の意味。problemは「問題」 他に、What’s the matter? や What happened? 等とも言う。
fall down：ここでは「落ちる」の意味。他に、「倒れる」の意味もある。
stairs：階段
bleed：出血する
suppose：～だと思う
break：骨折する
pain：痛み
have a pain in～：～に痛みがある
right away：すぐに
have a seat：座る
calm down：気持ちを落ち着ける

Nurse: Please have a seat. And calm down, please. The doctor will be here in a minute. (お座りください。落ち着いてください。医者はすぐにこちらへ参ります。)
★つ・ぶ・や・き★
海外にいて、怪我をしたり体調が悪かったりしたとき、そのことを英語で言えなかったら困りますね。
身振り手振りだけではどうしようもないこともあります。
基本表現だけでも覚えておくと助かると思います。
