    今回のテーマは「上司の家に招かれる」です。

    あなたは、上司の家に招かれました。

    早速その会話を覗いてみましょう。

    ★会話★

    You got invited to your boss’s house.

    Boss: Come on in and have a cup of tea.

    You: Wow! Nice house you have here!

    Boss: Thank you.

    You: And what a beautiful yard! You have a green thumb.

    Boss: I mowed it the day before yesterday.

    You: I’ve always wanted to live in a house like this.

    Boss: Oh really?

    You: Isn’t it hard to keep the yard so clean?

    Boss: You are right.

    You: How hard is that?

    Boss: You should do a lot of work.

    You: What is the hardest work for you?

    Boss: Weeding the yard. It takes time and trouble.

    ★ワンポイント★

    get invited to~:「~に招かれる」

    boss:「上司」

    mow:「(草などを)刈る」

    the day before yesterday:「一昨日」

    have a green thumb:「園芸が上手である」「草木の栽培がうまい」

    Isn’t it+形容詞+to~:「~するのは…(形容詞)ではありませんか?」の否定疑問文。

    keep+A(目的語)+B(形容詞):「AをBの状態にしておく」

    take time and trouble:「時間と手間を必要とする」

    ★和訳★

    You got invited to your boss’s house. (あなたは上司の家に招かれました。)

    Boss: Come on in and have a cup of tea. (入って。お茶を入れるから。)

    You: Wow! Nice house you have here! (わ~!すてきな家にお住まいですね!)

    Boss: Thank you. (ありがとう。)

    You: And what a beautiful yard! You have a green thumb. (それに、きれいな庭ですね!庭の手入れが上手です。)

    Boss: I mowed it the day before yesterday. (一昨日芝刈りをしたんだ。)

    You: I’ve always wanted to live in a house like this. (私もこんな家に住みたいといつも思っていました。)

    Boss: Oh really? (そうなの?)

    You: Isn’t it hard to keep the yard so clean? (こんなにきれいに庭を保つのは大変ではありませんか?)

    Boss: You are right. (その通りだね。)

    You: How hard is that? (どれくらい大変ですか?)

    Boss: You should do a lot of work. (たくさんやることがあるよ。)

    You: What is the hardest work for you? (一番大変なのは何ですか?)

    Boss: Weeding the yard. It takes time and trouble. (庭の雑草取りかな。時間と手間がかかるんだ。)

    ★つ・ぶ・や・き★

    我が家にも小さいながら庭があります。

    庭にきれいな花が咲くと、とても嬉しくなります。

    庭の手入れで一番大変なのは、やはり雑草取りですね。

    私は、薬剤を使わずに雑草を引っこ抜いた後に塩をまいています。

    この方法で何とか乗り切っています。
