あなたは、外出先から友人に電話をかけています。
早速その会話を覗いてみましょう。

You make a call to your friend.
Friend: Hello?
You: Hello. Can you hear me?
Friend: Yeah, but why is it so noisy there?
You: I’m calling from a coffee shop.I left my cell phone at home.So I have to use a pay phone.It took about 30 minutes to find it!
Friend: It’s really getting harder to find a pay phone these days.I guess cell phones are so popular that pay phones are decreasing.What’s up?
You: I’m lost.
Friend: Oh! Can you see any landmark?
You: Well, I can see the big yellow building just in front of this shop.And next to that building, there is a post office.
Friend: I suppose you are close to my house!I’ll pick you up soon.

Friend: Yeah, but why is it so noisy there? (うん。でもなぜそこはそんなにうるさいの？)
You: I’m calling from a coffee shop. I left my cell phone at home. So I have to use a pay phone. It took about 30 minutes to find it! (コーヒーショップから電話をしているの。 携帯電話を家に置いてきてしまった。 だから、公衆電話を使わなければならなかったの。見つけるのに30分もかかったわ。 )
Friend: It’s really getting harder to find a pay phone these days. I guess cell phones are so popular that pay phones are decreasing. What’s up? (最近は、公衆電話を見つけるのが本当に難しくなってきているね。 携帯電話がとても流行っていて、公衆電話が減ってきているのだと思う。 どうしたの？)
You: I’m lost. (道に迷ったの。)
Friend: Oh! Can you see any landmark? (あらら！ 何か目印は見える？)
You: Well, I can see the big yellow building just in front of this shop. And next to that building, there is a post office. (ええと、このショップのちょうど前に大きな黄色いビルが見えるわ。 それから、そのビルの隣には郵便局がある。)
Friend: I suppose you are close to my house! I’ll pick you up soon. (僕の家の近くにいるんだと思う。すぐに迎えに行くよ。)
★ つ・ぶ・や・き★
10年くらい前までは、公衆電話が街中にありましたが、最近はあまり見かけません。
道に迷ったときも、携帯電話があるとGPS機能に助けられることもありますね。
携帯電話が無いと、本当に不便な世の中になってしまいました。
