さあ、今日も元気に英語でコミュニケーション♪今回のテーマは「それぞれのショッピングを楽しむ」です。
健とアンが街に出てショッピングをしようとしていますが、二人の買いたいものが違うので、また後で落ち合うことにしたようです。彼らの会話を覗いてみましょう。
★会話★
Ken and Ann are at the shopping center.
Ken: What do you need to buy today?
Ann: I’d like to buy my clothes.
Ken: Is that all?
Ann: No, I need shoes and sunglasses, too. And if I have time, I’ll go listen to some CDs at the music store. How about you?
Ken: I’m going to do some window-shopping. I think I’ll go to the bookstore and browse through the magazines. And I’d like to buy some reference books there, too. I need to consult those reference books about my work.
Ann: OK. Shall we meet back here for dinner? What time shall we meet?
Ken: How about at six o’clock?
Ann: All right.

Ken: What do you need to buy today? (君は、今日何を買う必要がある？)
Ann: I’d like to buy my clothes. (洋服を買いたいわ。)
Ken: Is that all? (それだけ？)
Ann: No, I need shoes and sunglasses, too. And if I have time, I’ll go listen to some CDs at the music store. How about you? (いいえ、靴とサングラスも必要だわ。そしてもし時間があればミュージックストアでCDを聞こうと思っているの。あなたは？)
Ken: I’m going to do some window-shopping. I think I’ll go to the bookstore and browse through the magazines. And I’d like to buy some reference books there, too. I need to consult those reference books about my work. (僕はウインドーショッピングをするつもり。本屋さんへ行って雑誌を立ち読みしようかな。それから、参考図書も買いたいんだ。仕事のことを参考図書で調べる必要があるんだ。)
Ann: OK. Shall we meet back here for dinner? What time shall we meet? (わかったわ。夕食の時にここで待ち合わせしない？何時にしましょう？)
Ken: How about at six o’clock? (6時はどう？)
Ann: All right. (了解。)
★ワンポイント★
shopping center：「ショッピングセンター」（郊外などで商店が1カ所に集まり駐車場などが設けてある) shopping mall「ショッピングモール」は歩行者専用商店街のこと。
clothes：「洋服」でesを付けて複数形扱い。発音は[klóu（ð）z]。clothは「布」のこと。
browse through：「拾い読みする」「立ち読みする」
reference book：「参考図書」主に百科事典や辞書、年鑑のことをさす。「学習参考書」はstudy(-aid) bookという。
meet back：「～に戻り（人）と会う」

ショッピングは楽しいですね。
でも、男性と女性ではショッピングの内容が違うことが多いもの。
そんなときは、別々にショッピングを楽しんでまたあとで落ち合う、というのもありですね。
