実際に、わたしが経験したことですが、図書館へ行き、本を読んでいる間に、バッグの中に入っていたはずの財布がなくなっていたことがありました。
そのとき私は、バッグを自分が座っていた椅子のすぐ隣に置いておきました。本を読むことに夢中になっていた私は、バッグのことなど余り気にせずにいました。
さて、本を読み終わり、席を立ち、バッグを持とうとしたときに、やっと気付きました。
バッグが開いていたのです。中身を確認したら、財布が無いのです。
慌てた私は、すぐに警察へ行きました。でも、財布は戻りませんでした。
日本にいてもこのようなことがあるのです。海外では、さらに注意しなければなりませんね。
さて、サオリが海外で盗難にあいました。その時の様子を早速覗いてみましょう。

Policeman: Can you tell me about that in detail?
Saori: I went to the shopping mall.
And I went through the park near the mall.
Then I wanted to buy a cup of coffee at the coffee shop.
But I couldn’t find my wallet.
I think my wallet was stolen at the shopping mall.
Policeman: How much money was in it?
Saori: Well, about 300 dollars.
Policeman: All right.
This is a report on the theft.
Can you fill out this form?
Saori: OK.
Saori finishes filling out the form.
Saori: Here you are.
Policeman: We will call you when we find it.

be stolen：stolenはstole「盗む」の過去分詞。be stolenで受身形「盗まれる」

go through～：「～を通り抜ける」
report on the theft：「盗難報告書」theftは「窃盗」「盗み」の意味。

海外旅行で、良くあるトラブルは、「盗難」です。日本にいるときは、それほど問題にならない「盗難」ですが、海外では、注意しすぎることはありません。盗難に遭ったら、あなたならどうしますか？もし、警察を呼んでほしいとき、どのように言いますか？ここで、笑い話をひとつ。ある人が盗難に遭い、このように言いました。
’”Please call me a police!” さあ、どうでしょうか。一見正しそうに感じませんか？
これを直訳すると、「私を警察と呼んで下さい！」となります。さて、正しくは何というのでしょうか？さて、サリーが海外で旅行中にトラブルに遭いました。早速その会話を覗いてみましょう。
