「お元気ですか?」って英語で言える?相手の体調を聞く

今日のテーマは「相手の体調を聞く」です。祐樹がジェインになにか話しかけているようです。

どうも、ジェインの具合が悪そうです。では、二人の会話を聞いてみましょう。

会話

Yuki: What’s the matter? You look terrible. (どうかした?つらそうだよ。)

Jane: I don’t feel very well. I have a headache. (具合があまり良くないの。頭が痛くて。)

Yuki: Oh really? Did you go to see the doctor? (あ、そうなの?医者へ行った?)

Jane: No, I didn’t. (いいえ。)

Yuki: Don’t you have a fever? (熱は無い?)

Jane: Yes, I think I have a fever, too. (熱もあると思う。)

Yuki: Why don’t you go home if you feel bad? (もし具合悪いのなら帰ったら?)

Jane: I can’t. I have an important meeting I can’t miss this afternoon. (帰ることはできないわ。午後、抜けられない重要な会議があるの。)

Yuki: Well, why don’t you lie down until then? Maybe you’ll feel better. (じゃあ、そのときまで横になったらいいよ。たぶん良くなるよ。)

キーフレーズ

What’s the matter?:相手の具合が悪いときに聞く決まり文句。

terrible:つらい

I don’t feel very well:not~very wellで「あまり~ない」の意味。

have a headache:頭痛がする

have a fever:熱がある

Why don’t you~?:「~したらどう?」と相手を促すときに使う。

an important meeting I can’t miss:meetingをI can’t missが修飾している。 「抜けられない会議」missは「出席し損なう」

lie down:横になる until~:~まで

英会話

Takashi asks Amy about her physical condition.

Takashi: You look pale. What’s wrong with you?

Amy: My throat feels sore.

Takashi: That’s bad.

Amy: And my voice sounds funny.

Takashi: It sure does. Did you take your temperature?

Amy: No, not yet.

(Takashi puts his hand on her forehead)

Takashi: Oh, you have a fever.

Amy: I think so, too.

Takashi: You’d better go to see a doctor and stay home today. And then you need plenty of rest, good food.

Amy: That’s a good idea.

英語表現・フレーズ

physical condition:「体調」

pale:「青白い」「青ざめた」

wrong:「悪い」

throat:「のど」

sore:「ひりひりする」「痛い」

funny:「おかしい」「変な」

It sure does.:前の発言に対して「その通りだ」と言いたいときに使う。前文が動詞soundsなのでdoesになった。be動詞の時は、be動詞で言う。

temperature:「温度」「体温」

forehead:「額」「おでこ」

had better~:「~した方が身のためだ」「~しないと困ったことになる」

plenty of:「たくさんの」

Takashi asks Amy about her physical condition. (タカシがエイミーに体調について尋ねます。)

Takashi: You look pale. What’s wrong with you? (顔色が悪いよ。どうかしたの?)

Amy: My throat feels sore. (のどが痛いの。)

Takashi: That’s bad. (それはいけないね。)

Amy: And my voice sounds funny. (それから声がおかしいの。)

Takashi: It sure does. Did you take your temperature? (本当だね。体温は計った?)

Amy: No, not yet. (いいえ、まだよ。)

(Takashi puts his hand on her forehead) (タカシが彼女のおでこに手を当てる)

Takashi: Oh, you have a fever. (おお、熱があるよ。)

Amy: I think so, too. (私もそう思うわ。)

Takashi: You’d better go to see a doctor and stay home today. And then you need plenty of rest, good food. (医者へ行って、今日は家にいた方が良いよ。それから、たくさん休んで、美味しい物を食べることが必要だ。)

Amy: That’s a good idea. (そうするわ。)
