The specific topic of my research was the APP1 protein. Many lab experiments and tests were involved. I wrote weekly reports and presented my work at lab meetings and a program-specific academic poster conference at the end of the term to an audience that was not familiar with my area of specialty.

This was a summer undergraduate research project. I worked on a team of four supervised by a nationally renowned medical physician (in gastroenterology) and an electrical engineering professor. The goal of this project was to design a computerized visual guidance program that would supplement the live ultrasound imagery used in a minimally-invasive procedure for patients with pancreatic cancer and other gastroenterological ailments. My teammates were electrical engineering students and my role was to interpret the biological or medical terminology and details for them so they can write the program correctly. I viewed several live procedures and reviewed over 100 published journal articles about the procedure. I wrote many scientific reports for the team and presented the research at an academic poster conference to an audience not entirely familiar with my area of specialty.
