Hi, my name is Laurence. I am a 26-year-old American who has been living and working in Tokyo as a conversational English teacher for over two years. I am currently working at a school that exclusively offers one-on-one lessons to adults, and before that, I was working at another school where I taught a combination of group and private lessons to students of all ages - most commonly elementary school children
I'm originally from New Jersey, in the USA, which is also where I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. During this time, I also studied abroad for a semester in Osaka. Before coming to Tokyo in May 2015, I spent about a year and a half working as a business and systems integration analyst for a technology consulting company which often sent me on business trips to Washington DC
I am patient with new learners who are shy or scared of making mistakes, and detailed with advanced ones who like to analyze grammar or differences in nuance. With these credentials, I believe I can help you improve your English, and I want to. I think learning a foreign language is not only important for things like work and travel, but also for self-development. Language affects the way we think, so if we learn more languages, we will in turn learn more ways of thinking
