学歴・職歴・英語関連資格

I have recently completed working on Peace Boat, a Japanese NGO as a Global English Teaching (GET) Language instructor on the 86th voyage. The philosophy behind GET was to teach language as key tool for promoting a culture of Peace. My responsibilities included 80min classes with small intensive groups with a maximum of 6 people. Over the course of 3 months I taught adult beginners with an age range of 16-65yrs old. The curriculum was tailored to students and self-developed with regular assessments each month on each student's progress. The focus of teaching english was not on accents, but on communication.

In Japan I worked for Model Language Studio, an english school for children and actors and actresses. Using the 'drama method' of associating gestures with words and sounds, the key focus was on enjoyment of learning english expressively.

My experience of teaching has been strongest as President and creator of the International Exchange Society at SOAS. Over two years I co-ordinated and participated in the pairing of students from around the world looking to improve their respective languages, many of them looking to excel in their academic and professional english. Further to this, I was also part of the core team of a project which facilitated a weekend school for students across London. The project called the provided a space for University students to teach their respective subjects to high school students looking to learn more about subjects taught beyond the national curriculum. Both experiences as a teacher and co-ordinator has honed skills and insight in developing effective lesson plans; innovative teaching styles and dynamic language learning techniques.

As one of three Presidents in SOAS Students Union in the past year, I oversaw the management of over 165 societies which included scrutinizing the allocation and expenditure of societies (?36,000) alongside finalizing all other Union transactions. The importance of time management, communication skills and the importance of developing professional relations with institutions and organizations beyond SOAS, locally and internationally, is one which I thrived in.

Organizing ad hoc events daily; ensuring the delivery of weekly meetings and developing annual events through the Students Union and membership of committees such as the school’s Honorary Degrees and Fellowship Committee has heightened my interest in events management. Working with a wide range of events spanning from the weird (and wonderful) such as the annual Camel Conference to new successes such as the Pacific Islands Society Ambassadors series or the African Development Forum provided invaluable communication and administrative skills.

The expansive network of people projects had to be co-ordinated with such estates, security, catering, academics, AV/IT department, sponsors, etc also provided a diverse range of exciting responsibilities and allowed a greater appreciation for the importance of healthy working relationships within an institution in order to grow as a community. I endeavored to provide a strong framework for student-led events to grow alongside academic faculties and am proud to have successfully enabled a 23% increase in student activities in the interim of 6 months.

Having completed a fellowship on Nuclear Disarmament in partnership with Georgetown University, The Federation of American Scientists (FAS) and the Emerging Science and Technology Policy Centre (ESTPC) I was attracted to the academic nature of the position with Forte Inc. Having moved every two years of my life across various countries, I enjoy working with a diverse ranges of people within a company and amongst clients and appreciate the importance of communication in sharing knowledge.
