Research Assistant at the James Hogg Research Centre at Saint Paul's Hospital (May 2013 ? August 2013)
- Primary goal was to characterize the relation between extracellular granzyme B and skin composition
- Wrote a program that would aid in carrying out a data analysis on 3D segments of mouse skin
- Assisted in animal processing, and treated tissue samples extracted from these models
- Prepared skin samples for immunohistochemical staining and subsequent analysis
- Developed my interpersonal abilities as a result of the different personalities that shared our lab space
Research Assistant at the Jack Bell Research Centre at Vancouver General Hospital (January 2012 - September 2012)
- Primary goal was to pharmacologically inhibit a proto-oncogene product whose function was implied in prostate cancer metastasis and stability.
- Developed a drug screen that detects the functional structure of this proto-oncogene product, then amalgamated it with another assay that detected the proto-oncogene's functioning on its substrates, thereby increasing the assay's temporal and cost efficiency (effectively, two drug screens were run at once). The resulting assay was then adopted by the CDRD (Centre for Drug Research and Development) for anti-cancer drug screening.
- Conducted in-vitro experiments with cancer cell lines with putative anti-cancer compounds identified by my assay.
- Programmed code in Microsoft Excel to assist analyzing my data, and display my results clearly.
Kit Drum Teacher (July 2010 ? January 2011)
- Planned and taught lessons intended for beginner to intermediate-level drummers
- Developed my leadership abilities by directing students in a firm, yet sociable manner
- Gave students practical experience by accompanying them on piano
Education
University of British Columbia (September 2009 ? May 2014)
- Majored in Microbiology and Immunology with a minor in Psychology
Teaching Experience
- Took Japanese courses for two years at UBC
- Course content often included speaking with native Japanese speakers (usually exchange students).
- When speaking English to beginners, it's best to speak slowly, clearly, and with simple vocabulary.
