今回のテーマは「仕事中毒の人」です。
あなたは職場の同僚と話をしています。
早速その会話を覗いてみましょう。

You are talking with your co-worker.
You: Our boss is the busiest worker here.
Co-worker: Yes, he must be a workaholic.
You: I think so, too. He comes to the office earlier than us.
Co-worker: And he also goes home later.
You: That’s true.
Co-worker: So he spends so much time at the office.
You: Everybody knows that.
Co-worker: I’ve heard that he comes to the office even on Saturdays.
You: Wow! Why does he work so much?
Co-worker: I think he is slow to get work done.
You: I feel pity for him.
Co-worker: I can’t help it.

co-worker：「楷書の同僚」
boss：「職場の上司」
must be～：「～であるに違いない」
workaholic：「仕事中毒」
earlier：「より早く」earlyの比較級
also～：「また～」
true：「真実」
spend time：「時を過ごす」
get work done：「仕事を片付ける」
feel pity for～：「～を気の毒に思う」
can’t help：「仕方がない」

You: Our boss is the busiest worker here. (私たちの上司はここで一番忙しい人だ。)
Co-worker: Yes, he must be a workaholic. (そう、彼は仕事中毒に違いない。)
You: I think so, too. He comes to the office earlier than us. (私もそう思う。彼は私たちよりも早く職場に来る。)
Co-worker: And he also goes home later. (それに、遅く帰宅するし。)
You: That’s true. (その通り。)
Co-worker: So he spends so much time at the office. (だから、彼は職場でとても長い時間過ごしているんだ。)
You: Everybody knows that. (みんなそのことを知っている。)
Co-worker: I’ve heard that he comes to the office even on Saturdays. (彼は土曜日さえも職場に来るって聞いている。)
You: Wow! Why does he work so much? (わ～！なぜそんなに仕事をするんだろう？)
Co-worker: I think he is slow to get work done. (彼は仕事を処理するのが遅いんだと思うよ。)
You: I feel pity for him. (気の毒に思えるな。)
Co-worker: I can’t help it. (どうしようもないね。)

仕事中毒は、本人も気がつかないうちになってしまうようです。
特に、真面目な日本人はなりやすいのではないでしょうか。
仕事のことばかり考えていると疲れてしまいますよ。
