さあ、今日も元気に英語でコミュニケーション♪

今回のテーマは「朝食の会話」です。

タツヤがホストファミリーと朝食をとるところです。

早速その会話を覗いてみましょう。

★会話★

Tatsuya and his host mother are talking.

Host mother: Tatsuya, can you put some bread in the toaster?

Tatsuya: All right. How long will it take for toast?

Host mother: Well, about three minutes. What would you like to drink?

Tatsuya: I want a cup of coffee with milk.

Host mother: Can you use the coffee maker?

Tatsuya:How can I use it?

Host mother: Just fill the coffee maker with water and switch-on.

Tatsuya: OK! The toast is ready. I prefer butter to margarine. Do you have it?

Host mother: Yes, it’s in the refrigerator. Could you take a bottle of milk and eggs out of the refrigerator, too? I’ll make sunny-side up.

★ワンポイント★

put ～ in…：「～を…に入れる」

How long will it take～？：「どれくらい時間がかかりますか？」

with milk：「ミルクの入った」

fill ～ with…：「…で～をいっぱいにする」

is ready：「用意ができている」

prefer A to B：「BよりAの方が好きだ」

refrigerator：「冷蔵庫」

take～out of…：「…から～を取り出す」

a bottle of～：「1びんの～」

sunny-side up：「目玉焼き」

★和訳★

Tatsuya and his host mother are talking. (タツヤとホストマザーが話をしています。)

Host mother: Tatsuya, can you put some bread in the toaster? (タツヤ、トースターにパンを入れてくれる？)

Tatsuya: All right. How long will it take for toast? (わかった。トーストはどれだけ時間がかかるかな？)

Host mother: Well, about three minutes. What would you like to drink? (ええと、3分くらいかな。何が飲みたい？)

Tatsuya: I want a cup of coffee with milk. (ミルク入りのコーヒーが良いな。)

Host mother: Can you use the coffee maker? (コーヒーメーカーを使える？)

Tatsuya:How can I use it? (どうやって使うの？)

Host mother: Just fill the coffee maker with water and switch-on. (コーヒーメーカーに水をいっぱい入れて、スイッチを入れるだけよ。)

Tatsuya: OK! The toast is ready. I prefer butter to margarine. Do you have it? (分かった！トーストができたよ。僕はマーガリンよりバターが良いな。バターはありますか？)

Host mother: Yes, it’s in the refrigerator. Could you take a bottle of milk and eggs out of the refrigerator, too? I’ll make sunny-side up. (ええ、冷蔵庫の中よ。ボトルに入った牛乳と卵も冷蔵庫から出してちょうだい。目玉焼きを作るわ。)

★つ・ぶ・や・き★

目玉焼きが出てきましたが、焼き方にこだわる人もいますね。

裏返さずに黄身が半熟くらいになるように焼いたものは、 sunny-side upと言います。

両面焼きで黄身が壊れているのはfried、黄身が固くなっているのがover hard、黄身が中くらいの固さのはover medium、黄身が柔らかいものはover easyなどと言います。
