イギリスを英語にすると、どのように表現したらいいのでしょうか？
England, Great Britain, United Kingdom, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Irelandなど、
いろいろな呼び方があります。どの言い方も、それぞれの意味があります。さて、今回は、そのイギリスについてのお話です。エミリーとヒロシが会話をしています。
早速二人の会話を覗いてみましょう。

Hiroshi: I’m going to watch the soccer game on TV.
But it’s strange.
Emily: Why is it strange
Hiroshi: Because their countries are the same.
Emily: What does it mean?
Hiroshi: Why do they match each other?
That game is Scotland V.S. England.
Emily: Do you know England is one part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland?
It is called the U.K. for short.
There are England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland in the U.K.
And the U.K. consists of those 4 countries.
Hiroshi: Oh, I see.
So, those countries match each other, right?
Emily: That’s right.
Each country issues different banknotes.
Hiroshi: Is that right?
Emily: Yes, it is.
But the banknotes of England Bank can be used in other countries of the U.K.
Do you know Queen Elizabeth is printed on those banknotes?
Hiroshi: Yes, I do.
Can we use Euro there?
Emily: No, sterling pound is used as a currency.
Hiroshi: Is that true?
Emily: Yes, if you go to the U.K., you have to prepare sterling pound.
Hiroshi: I like the flag of the U.K.
Emily: Me, too.
Each national flag was put together and the current Union Jack flag was made.
Hiroshi: You really know well.
