I start with the student’s own learning materials if at all possible, so that they’ll get their money’s worth out of whatever textbooks etc., they have already purchased, then when I get to know what specific situations they need English for, I add or adapt English phrases/sentences for those specific situations, and depending on the student’s English level and needs, I may recommend additional learning materials. I greatly encourage students to write down phrases/sentences (in Japanese, if they don’t have time to write them in English) that they know they will be most likely to need to know how to say, and bring their notes to the lesson, so I can teach them English they will very likely use. Students taking notes during lessons is very important, so they can review what they learned whenever they have a spare moment for the rest of the week. |

I realized that the public school system in Japan puts Japanese people at a disadvantage in their English education, especially when it comes to pronunciation and conversation, and I wanted to help them overcome that disadvantage. |
