I start with the student’s own learning materials if at all possible, so that they’ll get their money’s worth out of whatever textbooks etc., they have already purchased, then when I get to know what specific situations they need English for, I add or adapt English phrases/sentences for those specific situations, and depending on the student’s English level and needs, I may recommend additional learning materials. I greatly encourage students to write down phrases/sentences (in Japanese, if they don’t have time to write them in English) that they know they will be most likely to need to know how to say, and bring their notes to the lesson, so I can teach them English they will very likely use. Students taking notes during lessons is very important, so they can review what they learned whenever they have a spare moment for the rest of the week.

I was born to missionary parents and raised in Japan, but as I am American, I was educated entirely in English from the time I was very small. Growing up in a predominantly English-speaking environment and attending international schools where over 95% of the students themselves were native English speakers, English became my first language. I first developed a passion for teaching English in college, when I joined an all-native English speaking volunteer English conversation club which assisted students in Japanese universities with their English-Speaking Society (ESS) circles. I realized that the public school system in Japan puts Japanese people at a disadvantage in their English education, especially when it comes to pronunciation and conversation, and I wanted to help them overcome that disadvantage.

I grew up in Australia for the first 10 years if my life and now I have been in Japan for 10 years. I have graduated junior high school and high school in Japan.

I want to use my english skills that I attained in Australia and I want to teach Japanese people english since I believe that Japan needs to improve in their English compared to many other asian countries and I would like to support that by teaching

I was in medical school pursuing my dream to be a doctor but I got exhausted and want to take a break from studying so I came to Japan to visit my mom who was working at the U.S Embassy back then. After touring Japan for 3months I decided to work as a fitness instructor for kids in English. I didn’t know that it is my passion and I became so motivated to teach English to people not only to kids but to career oriented people as well.
