John and Saori are talking in the office.
Saori: Can you meet Mr. Okada next Monday?
John: Let me check my schedule. Oh, I’ve got so much to do. So, I’m afraid I can’t meet him.
Saori: Are you pressed for time?
John: I need all the help I can get.
Saori: Can I help you with something?
John: Thanks. Can you copy these papers? And then staple these together.
Saori: OK! Oh, this copy machine doesn’t work.
John: Really? Then can you go downstairs? You can use another copy machine.
Saori: Oh, I never thought it would come to this. Will you treat me to dinner?
John: Sure!

Let～：使役動詞「～させる」

check one’s schedule：「～のスケジュールを確認する。」

get so much to do：「すべきことがたくさんある。」

I’m afraid～：「残念ながら～」

be pressed for time：「時間に追われている」

need all the help：「あらゆる助けを必要としている」

and then：「それから」

staple：「ホチキスで留める」

together：「一緒に」「合わせて」

doesn’t work：「作動しない」

then：「それでは」

never thought：「考えたことはなかった」

come to this：「この様になる」

treat：「おごる」「ごちそうする」

Sure：「良いよ」「分かった」

Saori: Can you meet Mr. Okada next Monday? (来週の月曜日に岡田さんと会えますか？)
John: Let me check my schedule. Oh, I’ve got so much to do. So, I’m afraid I can’t meet him. (スケジュールを確認させて。ああ、やらなきゃならないことがたくさんあるな。だから、残念だけど彼には会えないな。)
Saori: Are you pressed for time? (時間に追われているの？)
John: I need all the help I can get. (猫の手も借りたいよ。)
Saori: Can I help you with something? (何か手伝うことある？)
John: Thanks. Can you copy these papers? And then staple these together. (ありがとう。これらをコピーしてくれる？それから、ホチキスで留めて。)
Saori: OK! Oh, this copy machine doesn’t work. (分かった！あら、このコピーは動かないわ。)
John: Really? Then can you go downstairs? You can use another copy machine. (本当？それじゃあ、下の階へ行ってくれる？別のコピー機を使えるよ。)
Saori: Oh, I never thought it would come to this. Will you treat me to dinner? (あら、こんなことになるとは思いもしなかったわ。夕食をおごってくれる？)
John: Sure! (良いよ！)
