After completing my education in Scotland, I was suddenly confronted with the hard choice on where to go to University. After having lived in Scotland and Germany, I wanted to experience something new. I was a huge anime fan and decided to do some research into Japanese Universities and through some luck and hard work, I got accepted. As for why I want to become a teacher, its because as mentioned previously, I used to teach in Japan already and it brought me great joy and I really enjoyed doing it. Currently I am looking for a part time job and I believe that I would be the perfect fit for this position.
Hello, my name is Ferdinand. I am currently a student at Tokyo International University and study International Relations. I have been traveling my whole life and I understand that conversation is the most important skill to have in life. I went to boarding school in Scotland and it opened up my eyes to what else there is in the world. In my english class I will be focusing on learning how to speak English fluently and eloquently. My main priority will be to teach how to create “flow” in a conversation. Although this concept seems confusing and hard, trust me it is not! I know learning a new language is hard and improving upon it is even harder, however In my class I believe that progress will not only come quickly but it will also be fun! We will be focusing more on reading and speaking rather than grammar and sentence structure. Every class will be different but we will focus on one piece of literature every class, maybe it will be from a book or it will just be a passage that I will print out. We will read it together and I will help guide your pronunciation and afterwards we will discuss the reading together as a class.
My lessons will mainly focus on two aspects, which is firstly conversation and secondly reading. My classes will consist of two main parts, the first being either a reading assignment of a text or a book and then discussing what we have read and transforming the classroom into an interactive discussion rather than a straightforward lesson. I believe that the easiest way to fluently learn a language is by conversing with others in the same language over everyday topics. These topics do not have to complicated but rather they should involve daily aspects of life to help get rid of the “text book” English and transform it into proper communicative English.
I have been teaching children from ages 8-15 up until recently. I have done several internships in German companies, where my role used to be as an “all rounder”. I am very confident in my communication skills and am an extrovert. I did the International Baccalaureate program my entire life and finished my degree in St. Andrews, Scotland. I have been in an english speaking schools since 1st grade and also was the only foreigner in my school to take English Literature higher level in my IB course. Now I am an International Relations Major and I plan on mastering in IR as well.
