I am a third generation Japanese. We are a family of teachers. My father and eldest sister were principals, I have 4 sisters and 2 brothers who are all teachers.

As an English teacher, I explain education policies by clearly outlining classroom rules, grading criteria, and curriculum goals to ensure students understand expectations and objectives. When introducing texts, I provide concise summaries, clarify challenging vocabulary, and connect themes to real-life experiences to enhance engagement. I also emphasize structured writing, critical thinking, and active participation through discussions and assignments, fostering both language proficiency and analytical skills.

I moved to Japan with my children because my husband works here as a software engineer, and I currently reside as a dependent. Back in Sri Lanka, I worked as an English teacher, and I wish to continue my career in the same field here in Japan. Teaching English has always been my passion. I deeply enjoy helping others improve their communication skills, interacting with people from diverse cultures, and fostering cross-cultural understanding. Japan has always been a dream destination for me. Its rich culture, beautiful aesthetics, and seamless blend of tradition and innovation felt like the perfect place to explore and grow personally and professionally. As someone passionate about art, design, and psychology, I’ve found endless inspiration here—from the architecture to the way people value mindfulness and creativity in daily life. Becoming an English teacher felt like the ideal way to connect with people and share something meaningful. It’s not just about teaching a language—it’s about helping others build confidence, express themselves, and reach their goals. Plus, it’s a great opportunity for me to bring my interests into the classroom, like using photography, art, and even psychology to make learning more interactive and engaging. Just be comfortable and have fun while learning the language. I often use phonic journey textbooks and we can textbooks for students from 4 to 15 years old. I also use Interchange textbooks for high school students. Besides, I think Prism textbooks are suitable for university students.

I have been living in Japan for almost 6 years and the reasons for that are because I'm interested in the language, the people and the culture here. However, while living in Japan I realized that English- the international language is needed anywhere including the countries with English as the official language, Japan and even in my home country Vietnam. It's not only the communication tool but also the important key that helps me open my mind and have different perspectives. That's why I ended up with the English communication major and became an English teacher who's teaching English as a foreign language.

Hi there! I’m Temuulen, but you can call me Tim! I’m currently in my 4th year at Tokyo International University in Ikebukuro, studying programming and business. After graduating high school, I decided to take a 2-3 year gap year for personal reasons. During that time, I taught high school students preparing for national exams at my high school and at Absolute English Language Center in Mongolia. I love playing volleyball, binge-watching English movies and series, and lately, I’ve been diving into all kinds of anime. English has been a big part of my life since middle school, and I’ve taken exams like the SAT and IELTS. My husband's job brought us here to Japan four years ago. I was a nurse and an Online English teacher in the Philippines. I continued my passion for teaching until the strike of the pandemic. I took a Master of Arts in Education course to upskill my self and learn more about he pedagogy of teaching.

I came to Japan to learn Japanese! Being an English teacher was just one of the many ways I thought I could give back to the Japanese people around me, and also enjoy their presence and culture.

Next is Cultural Awareness Assignments, where we assign projects and assignments that require students to research and present various aspects of a chosen culture. Emphasis will be placed on language accuracy and fluency in presenting the information.

Finally is Multicultural Collaboration, where we encourage students to collaborate on projects with peers from different cultural backgrounds. This collaboration will extend beyond traditional classroom settings, fostering friendships and an appreciation for diverse perspectives.

Policy 2: Conversation-Based Language Learning

Objective:
To enhance English language proficiency through immersive conversation-based learning, emphasizing practical communication skills in real-world scenarios.

We implement this by prioritizing interactive and discussion-oriented classroom activities over traditional lecture-based teaching methods. We create an environment that encourages spontaneous and natural conversation among students.

Next is Real-World Simulation Exercises: Design simulation exercises that replicate real-life scenarios, such as job interviews, travel situations, or business meetings. This approach will provide students with practical language skills applicable to various contexts.

Finally is the Peer-to-Peer Language Exchange Program, where we facilitate a program where students can pair up with peers looking to practice English. This exchange will encourage mutual learning, providing students with opportunities to teach and learn from each other.

By implementing these policies, the English language class will focus on linguistic development and provide a platform for students to appreciate and learn from each other's cultures, fostering a more comprehensive and enriching educational experience.

My major was the initial reason why I came to Japan. However, I started finding myself more reasons to stay in Japan and pursue a career in becoming an English teacher. I started it as a part-time job and I feel like it is now a passion of mine to influence the younger generation of Japan to connect globally by first building their English skills and then assisting them in whatever they need in order to build these skills.

It depends on the age, goal and timeline.
Every student motivation is different. I taught for more than 7 years in Tokyo. Some focused on Toeic, Eiken (in case of kids) others on conversational skills for traveling abroad and interacting with foreigner in Japan. Also there is Business orienting textbooks for businessmen.

I came to Japan because I have mixed roots. Middle Eastern and Japanese. I was born and raised abroad, yet I always wondered about my other Japanese half. I came to study the culture. I live here now for over 20 years.

I tend to follow the learn by doing approach to language acquisition. Giving students a chance to use what they have learned or been taught is important in adding it to their base of language knowledge and usage skills. I tend to prefer the commercially available textbooks that are sold in bookstores or online.
